Empact Growth Fund
The Empact Growth Fund (EGF, or the
Fund), a US$50 million regional private equity fund targeting SMEs
in select eastern and southern African countries, is underdevelopment.
The Fund will make investments of
US$500,000 to US$5 million in
companies that require risk capital in order to accelerate their growth
and profitability. Drawing on its local presence, deep networks
within the business communities and a combination
of domestic and international investment and operational experience,
Empact believes it is uniquely placed to originate and execute private
equity transactions in the region. The Fund will make equity and equity-related investments in private businesses, constructing a balanced portfolio focused both on the sizeable domestic economy and on export opportunities within and beyond the target region. The Fund’s investment policy will be sectorally agnostic and Empact will concentrate on industries well positioned for rapid expansion including, but not limited to, agro-industry and agro-processing, floriculture, fast moving consumer goods (FMCG), leather, garments and textiles, construction materials, support services to infrastructure and energy and general services. EGF will primarily target expansion capital and change-of-control transactions and consolidations, only considering start-ups in exceptional circumstances. The Fund will acquire significant minority and majority stakes in portfolio companies with board representation and active involvement in management.
